Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust

Chris Matthews BSc MRes

I have been a professional archaeologist for over 10 years, graduating from Cardiff University in 2012, having already undertaken training at the legionary fortress of Caerleon, as well as, gaining commercial experience with Cambridge Archaeological Unit at Ham Hill in 2011. I went on to become a freelance archaeologist working all over England and Wales. While working for the Bartlett-Clark Geophysical Consultancy in Oxford, I developed a specialty for landscape archaeology and geophysical survey. In 2015 I became a Partner at Archaeological Survey West LLP, where I was a survey contractor for organisations such as the Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust, the National Trust, Wrexham Museum, and several Universities. More recently, I have been awarded Associate Researcher status with the University of Chester, for my ongoing co-operative research with the archaeology department, including the initial discovery and excavation of the Rossett Roman villa.
I have had a long-standing relationship with Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust as a freelance archaeologist and subcontractor and have welcomed the opportunity to formally join the field services team in 2022. I hope that I can be an asset to the team and help to develop landscape survey solutions for the trust.
