Enquries during the making of Time Team at Ffrith

In the early 1990s the Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust complied a series of studies of historic settlements throughout our region. The primary purpose of these was to inform planning authorities of each settlement's history and identify an historic core to the medieval settlement. From 2010 CPAT, with funding from Cadw, have re-visited these studies, starting in the old county of Brecknockshire (outside the National Park) and the old county of Radnorshire. Studies of Montgomeryshire and Flintshire have followed in 2011-12 and Wrexham and the Brecon Beacons National Park in 2012-13. We hope to complete the remaining areas over the next year.

Also as part of our Regional Heritage Management Service funded by Cadw, the Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust have created interactive maps of four communities in the region and supporting web pages about the settlements. Visitors can interrogate the maps and read about the sites of archaeological and historical interest, and access background information. This information comes from the Regional Historic Environment Record (HER), a public-access database about archaeology and history curated by CPAT.

Please remember that while many of the sites discussed here are visible from public roads and footpaths most of them are private property, and this should be respected.
