PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

Chirk Castle, Wrexham

In September 2021, over a period of 11 days, CPAT delivered a third season of community excavation at Chirk Castle. The project, with continuing additional funding support from the AONB and National Trust, aimed to further explore a range of buildings associated with the seventeenth- and eighteenth-century history of the site.

Bailey Hill, Mold

Following on from preliminary survey and investigations during 2020, continuing archaeological investigations were undertaken in 2021 in connection with the creation of a new playground within Bailey Hill Park, Mold.

Castell Dinas Brân, Llangollen

The first ever archaeological investigation at Dinas Bran was conducted by CPAT in August 2021 when four hand-dug trial trenches were undertaken internally within the eastern end of the southern gatehouse, and externally at its western end and northern side.

Barker Street, Shrewsbury

Evaluation and excavation of a complex urban site, with medieval industrial and domestic features. Undertaken as mitigation for a development of student accommodation as part of a key strategic regeneration of the historic town centre.

Borras Quarry, Wrexham

Long-term monitoring, survey and excavation of a complex prehistoric landscape during large-scale gravel extraction. Significant Neolithic and Bronze Age finds and features, with minimal disruption for the client.
