Excavation

Large-scale excavations at Four Crosses (Powys) in advance of the construction of the bypass (A483)

Strip, map and sample’ strategy on a site in Shrewsbury (Shropshire) where a rapid response was required.

Although small-scale evaluation trenches may form the majority of excavations, there is sometimes the need for larger excavations to be undertaken. This is usually a final phase of mitigation, involving the total excavation of an area in advance of development, in a situation where there are no other viable management options. The presence of significant archaeological remains will normally have been identified during the assessment phase through small-scale trial trenching.

Our core staff have considerable experience in managing excavation projects and through close links with a number of specialists we are able to offer a full range of specialist services, including conservation, finds analysis, dating, and palaeoenvironmental analysis.
