PRN 77933 - Welshpool, High Street Town Hall

Town hall built in early 19th century in brick. Front part of building was set on arches open to the weather. The assize court at the rear took up the remaining ground floor area of the building. The upper floor contained a ballroom. In 1809 a town clock was installed in the turret. In 1814 alterations were made to the building to facilitate the holding of the flannel market. Further enlarged in 1836, adding 2 cells for prisoners. By 1860's decided that hall was not big enough. New town hall (PRN 36435) was built on this site in 1873/4 (Gilbert-Davies, I, 2000, 74).
