PRN 72078 - Welshpool, Stone House, well I

Circular brick-lined well of unknown depth located to the rear of the former Stone House. Discovered during watching brief by CAP in 1999. It measured 0.9m in diameter internally and was structurally sound. It was covered with a slate slab, which, when removed, revealed the deep open well retaining water at the bottom. It was built in a single lining of irregular hand-made unmortared bricks of the Buttington Red variety. It appears on the 1902 2nd edition OS map (Frost, P,1999).
