PRN 88735 - Ffrith, Offa's Dyke, excavation 1926

NGR :- SJ2851355255 (SJ25NE)
Unitary authority :- Flintshire
Community :- Llanfynydd
Prefered site type :- 20th century - Excavation (Event - )

In the course of his survey of Offa's Dyke Cyril Fox cut a trench through the dyke S of the Post Office and opposite the Calvinistic Methodist Chapel. He demonstrated the post-Roman date of the dyke and that the bank had been constructed from material excavated from the ditch. Two basin-shaped holes full of charcoal and containing Roman pottery, and a posthole interpreted as being contemporary with the erection of the bank were discovered beneath the bank (Davies, E, 1949, pp232-3).

CYRIL FOX IN 1926 FOUND ROMAN ARTEFACTS (PRN 100026) BOTH WITHIN THE BANK MATERIAL OF OFFA'S DYKE AND STRATIFIED BENEATH IT.
