PRN 13170 - Wynnstay Arms bridge

Bridge over River Rhiw Saeson (tributary of River Dyfi) on former turnpike (Fourth District) road from Llanbrynmair to Cemmaes Road (now A489). Single segmental arch rebuilt of stone before 1847. Voussoirs rusticated with V-joints; prominent keystones. Spandrels, wingwalls and parapets of dressed stone in regular courses mostly with scappled surface although some (in parapets) rock-faced. Parapet of three courses with coping. String-courses at carriageway level; carriageway rises in centre. Curved returns ending in newels. Strengthened with tie bars and plates in recent years. Bridge designed or erected by Thomas Penson (1790-1859) (Anthony, C R, 1995).
