A swift walk along the canal . . . . .
A small but determined band, of 9 people, ventured out on the 6th July (in between games in the World Cup) to accompany Chris Martin on a guided walk along the Welshpool section of the Montogomeryshire Canal as part of Welshpool's Be a Local Tourist week. Although a fairly short stroll they learnt about the origins of the canal, and its chequered history, about how it came near to closure in 1944, how the Welshpool section was rescued from being turned into a bypass in 1968 and how it is now gradually nearing reopening. All agreed it was well worth the effort.
